So I live in Hull City, or as it is officially known, Kingston Upon Hull. It seems the naming convention for Hull isn't like other places; Stoke on Trent is known as Stoke and Newcastle Upon Tyne known as Newcastle. Yet Kingston Upon Hull is known as Hull, not Kingston.
Then again, Hull isn't like other places. It is possible that not many of you have heard of Hull, which seems to be the case for many people who live outside of Yorkshire. Hull used to be a very important port in the UK, but 95% of it was bombed during World War 2. I've lived here for just over 4 years now, and you'd think that this place just never recovered; the average reading age is 7, 1 in 5 are on benefits, it was voted the worst place to live in 2005 and some guy somehow recently failed to rob William Hill while armed with sellotape and some plastic tubes. He even had the sense to dump the makeshift firearm in a nearby alley.
I'd originally hoped that I wouldn't end up in Hull after finishing my studies here, but I stumbled across a job here and I do actually quite like it so for now, although they say home is where the heart is, for me home is now Hull.
